Marien L. McDonald, 93, of Dunmore, died Tuesday afternoon at Regional Hospital, Scranton. Her husband, the late John McDonald died July 30, 1995. The couple had been married for 48 years.
Born in Scranton on July 16, 1923, Marien was the only child of the late Tom and Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Walsh Taylor. She graduated from the former Scranton Central High School and attended Lackawanna Jr. College. She was employed at Lillian Flannery’s Dress Shop after finishing her degree and prior to her marriage.
Her father, Tom, was the founder of the former Tom Taylor’s Sporting Goods Store which was a Scranton favorite with area athletes and sports enthusiasts for over 70 years. She was a member of Elmhurst Country Club and enjoyed traveling, golfing and her beloved Snoopy collection, which grew to be quite impressive over the years. She especially enjoyed her winters spent in Marco Island, Florida.
Marien was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved visiting Fenway Park. Her obsession with the baseball team started in the 40’s when the Scranton Red Sox farm team was located just blocks from her childhood home.
